Additionally, we offer corrective and maintenance services to both adults and children. We are well aware that hairstyles are a determining factor in how you look and feel about yourself. These services are executed to complement the overall look of the client.

Some of the Hair Conditions commonly treated include: 

Alopecia Areata

Alopecia areata, one of many types of alopecia (hair loss), is an autoimmune disorder in which your immune system mistakenly attacks hair follicles, causing hair to fall out and growth to stop in that area. It can be self correcting (regrowth of hair) or the condition can regress to Alopecia Totalis. The methods of treatment used are aroma-therapy, irritants and topical application of herbs.

Traction Alopecia

Common to the fashion of the day is traction alopecia, which is a form of traumatic hair loss, which tends to result from traction (too much pressure to the hair root), imposed by plaiting and braiding. Treatments that have proven to be beneficial include topical application of herbs, stimulants and UV light.

Seborrheic Dermatitis

This scalp problem is often seen in the clinic. It’s a condition associated with excessive oiliness of the scalp. The cause is not known but genetics, hormones and yeast are found to be contributing factors. Consultation, microscopic examination and treatments are implemented alongside a cleansing regime. Recommended products are also offered to keep the problem under control. If infection is present, a referral to a Dermatologist for antibiotics is provided.

Trichoptilosis

The long word for “split ends,” this condition is often very manageable and preventable with regular hair care regimes. Split ends are caused by excessive chemical and thermal procedures such as coloring, relaxing, straightening, and perms. Getting regular trims, limiting these procedures, and only shampooing hair as often as necessary can keep split ends from occurring or lessen their intensity.

Dry & Brittle Hair

We also commonly provide corrective services for dry and brittle hair, chemically damaged hair and naturally damaged hair. The specific cause of the disorder is determined by consultation, hair or microscopic analysis. The appropriate treatment will then be administered along with advice for preventing these conditions.

Hair Breakage

When the hair is weakened, anywhere from the follicle to the shaft or end, the hair strand breaks. While some breakage is normal, excessive breakage may indicate weakened hair from a number of causes. Stop by our clinic and our Trichologists will diagnose the cause of your breakage and offer the corrective treatments which will strengthen your hair.

Dandruff

Dandruff can be caused by an overly dry, an overly oily scalp or other scalp conditions. Sometimes, dandruff appears temporarily from hair product residue. The TrichoTherapy Hair Centre offers in-house treatments for dandruff as well as products to use at home to continue to treat and prevent dandruff in the future.

Diffused Hair Loss

Diffused hair loss refers to excessive hair loss over the entire scalp. Diffused hair loss has few physical signs to assist in determining the cause. The uncontrolled hair loss may be a temporary reaction to physical or emotional stress. It may also be due to a disturbance in normal body physiology or environmental trauma, which only when corrected will allow normal hair growth to occur. Great knowledge, skill and tact are required during consultation for our Trichologists to pinpoint the cause of this condition.

Some temporary causes of diffused hair loss are:

    • Medical Operations
    • Fever
    • Dieting
    • Cessation of pregnancy
    • Some medications
    • Mineral deficiencies and hormonal imbalances

Male and Female Androgenetic Alopecia

Female androgenetic alopecia, clinically known as ‘female pattern hair loss,’ (FPHL) more often causes diffuse thinning without hairline recession. Like its male counterpart, the condition rarely leads to total hair loss, although it is possible.

Androgenetic alopecia is easily recognized by its location on the scalp (top and/or front) and by the manner in which it occurs. Although baldness is not as common in women as in men, the psychological effects of hair loss tend to be much greater.

Typically the frontal hairline is preserved but the density of hair is decreased on all areas of the scalp in women.

In men recession of the hair occurs at the temples and/or thinning of hair occurs in the front/crown areas of the scalp. The final stage of such a loss leaves a band of hair around the back and sides of the scalp and baldness over the rest of the scalp.

So as the name suggests, the problem can be hormonal, genetic or both based on individual predisposition . Thorough consultation will determine which condition is represented and the appropriate treatments will be applied or recommended by a Trichologist.

We are pleased to advise that we have re-opened our offices starting Thursday, June 18, 2020, to serve you.  In addition, we are also available online through Zoom to speak to you on any concerns you may have.
 

We recognize that adjusting to the COVID-19 pandemic has had a disrupting effect on our lives, and the people we serve. We hope you and your family have been adjusting to the changes while keeping safe. It’s important to note that we too, have been impacted and have taken the necessary steps to flatten the curve by limiting physical client interaction.

 We are aware that you may be concerned about the impact this will have on each of your situations, you might be asking what should I be doing to help my condition?
 
I would recommend that you try not to worry too much, the stress can cause the hormone levels in your body to rise and if this condition continues for too long it can trigger diffused hair loss and other health and hair problems.
 
Emotions – We are also aware that each patient’s emotions are affected differently under these circumstances, so anxiety, fright, and depression among others can have a negative effect on the mind and body that will, in turn, have a negative effect on the hair by making your condition worse or by triggering other hair problems.
 
We want you all to know we remain committed to supporting you, we are here for you, we understand the need to practice social distancing now more than ever, but we also understand that it is in times like these it is even more important to remain connected.
